How well does the Moto G51 compare to the Redmi Note 11T?
The budget smartphone segment has not seen many launches as last year most manufacturers brought new launches in the mid-range and premium mid-range segment. 5G smartphones are mainstream in the budget and mid-range segment which we have seen many smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi, Realme and now Motorola has joined the bandwagon with the Moto G51 that is the first smartphone to be powered by the Snapdragon 480+ chipset.
There is also the Redmi Note 11T 5G (Review) which is a good all-rounder package from Xiaomi. So how good is the Redmi Note 11T compared to the Moto G51 (Review) when considering all the specifications and with the Stock Android experience and an all-rounder package, is the Moto G51 the better option? Let’s find out in the full comparison.
Moto G51 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T 5G Design:
In terms of build and design, both do not impress much as both of them have a polycarbonate back instead of glass. The Moto G51 has a matte finish at the back that provides a better grip and attracts less fingerprints compared to the glossy back of the Redmi Note 11T 5G. The Moto G51 has a different hue of colors with the top having a blue color and the bottom slightly dark blue color.
The Redmi Note 11T 5G has a plain and simple look at the back. The Moto G51 weighs around 208grams which is slightly heavier than the 195grams on the Redmi Note 11T 5G. The back of the Redmi Note 11T has a larger rectangular camera module where you get two cameras whereas the Moto G51 has a capsule-shaped camera module that houses triple cameras.
Both have an IP52 rating at the back which makes them splashproof against water. Around the sides, both have a power button with the volume buttons but the Moto G51 gets an additional button for Google Assistant. The power button on both smartphones doubles up as a fingerprint scanner which is accurate and fast.
At the bottom, both have a USB Type-C port, a primary microphone, a loudspeaker grill with a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the top, both have a secondary noise-canceling microphone but the Redmi Note 11T gets an IR Blaster with a speaker setup that acts as stereo speakers. Both have a hybrid SIM card slot instead of a triple card slot. In terms of design, the Redmi Note 11T looks better but the build is equally good on both.
Moto G51 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T 5G Display:
Both the Moto G51 and the Redmi Note 11T 5G have an IPS LCD display with Full HD+(1080×2400 pixels) resolution but the Moto G51 has a larger 6.8-inches display compared to a 6.6-inches display on the Redmi Note 11T 5G. However, both do miss out on AMOLED panels which have slightly better viewing angles and color reproduction compared to IPS LCD panels.
Both these displays have high refresh rates where the Redmi Note 11T 5G has a 90Hz refresh rate, the Moto G51 gets a slightly better 120Hz refresh rate. The high refresh rate on both provides smoother multitasking and also while playing games. Both these smartphones have a 240Hz touch sampling rate that provides faster touch responses during gaming.
In terms of brightness, the Moto G51 has slightly better brightness levels compared to the Moto G51 but does not offer as good viewing angles as present on AMOLED displays. Both displays do struggle under direct sunlight but still, the display on the Moto G51 is slightly better than the Redmi Note 11T 5G. Both displays have different color profiles and you can set them to either a warmer or a cooler tone.
The Redmi Note 11T 5G provides more options – Standard, Natural, and Auto where you can tweak the color profile manually whereas on the Moto G51 you get only two color profiles – Natural and Saturated. Both these displays have support for Widevine L1 and also have HDR support for Youtube. Still, both cannot play HDR on Netflix. Overall, the display is slightly better on the Moto G51.
Moto G51 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T 5G Performance:
When it comes to performance, both have equally good powerful chipsets that support 5G. The Redmi Note 11T 5G is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 810 chipset whereas the Moto G51 is powered by the Snapdragon 480+ chipset. In terms of daily performance, both feel equally fast in multi-tasking, rendering videos, and also while playing games.
All heavy games like Call Of Duty Mobile, BGMI, etc. ran smoothly without any frame drops but the Moto G51 could easily run HDR graphics with a High frame rate whereas the Redmi Note 11T 5G can run only HD graphics with a High frame rate. After playing games for a longer period of time, the Redmi Note 11T 5G does feel slightly warmer compared to the Moto G51.
In terms of benchmarks, the Moto G51 scores slightly better compared to the Redmi Note 11T 5G whether it is Geekbench 5.1 or Antutu v8. There is not much difference as both feel faster and the 240Hz touch sampling rate feels faster on both. In CPU throttling tests, the Moto G51 has slightly better-sustained performance compared to the Redmi Note 11T 5G.
Both have support for up to 11/12 bands of 5G. The Moto G51 is available in only one variant – 4GB LPDDR4X RAM with 64GB storage which has eUFS storage speeds whereas the Redmi Note 11T 5G is available in three variants – 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. 6GB RAM with 128GB storage and 8GB RAM with 128GB storage where storage speeds are of UFS 2.2 that is slightly faster compared to Moto G51.
Moto G51 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T Software:
The Moto G51 has Stock Android which they call MyUX whereas the Redmi Note 11T 5G has MIUI 12.5 out of the box and both these smartphones run Android 11 out of the box. The Moto G51 does not have any bloatware or any third-party applications present. Like Xiaomi has the GetApps which throw in a lot of notifications, this is not the case with Stock Android on the Moto G51.
The Redmi Note 11T 5G has quite an amount of bloatware but it is still very little compared to previous MIUI versions. There are no ads present as such on both the user interfaces. Moto G51 offers a lot of features like personalization features and gestures like a karate chop to turn on/off the flashlight, twist to open the camera, and much more which makes everything convenient to use.
The MIUI also provides some good features and just like the Always-On display on MIUI, Motorola provides Peek and Attentive Display. In terms of software updates, Moto G51 will get another one year of Android OS update and two years of security updates whereas Xiaomi is not clear about updates officially on the Redmi Note 11T 5G. Clearly, in terms of software experience, the Moto G51 holds the edge.
Moto G51 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T 5G Cameras:
In terms of cameras, the Redmi Note 11T 5G has a dual-camera setup that includes a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide camera whereas the Moto G51 has a triple camera setup that includes a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. The Moto G51 has a 13MP camera on the front whereas the Redmi Note 11T 5G has a 16MP camera.
The images from the main camera come out with a good dynamic range and details look good on both. The Moto G51 produces natural colors in the images whereas the Redmi Note 11T has slightly oversaturated colors. The noise is also slightly lower on the Moto G51 compared to the Redmi Note 11T 5G. But in HDR images, the colors look more natural on the Redmi Note 11T 5G.
When it comes to night, the images from the Redmi Note 11T 5G have a better dynamic range and colors look more natural compared to the Moto G51. The noise is also lower on the Moto G51 but details look slightly sharper on the Moto G51. Using the dedicated Night Mode, the Redmi Note 11T 5G does have better sharper-looking details and also less noise compared to the Moto G51.
The 8MP ultrawide camera on both smartphones takes images with good dynamic range and contrast. The details look slightly softer on both and around the edges, there is distortion and suffer from noise.
The colors look almost close to natural but still not as good as that of the main camera. The images were taken during the night come out with a decent dynamic range, a large amount of noise and details look softer.
The Moto G51 has a 2MP macro camera that does take images with decent dynamic range, the colors look washed out and there is a larger amount of noise present. The Redmi Note 11T 5G misses out on a macro camera but you can use the main camera for close-up images that have better colors and a good amount of details.
When it comes to portraits, the edge detection, and dynamic range are better on the Moto G51 compared to the Redmi Note 11T 5G. The selfies come out with good details on both but the dynamic range is slightly better on the Moto G51 compared to the Redmi Note 11T 5G. The selfies come out with natural-looking skin tones on the Moto G51 and have slightly less noise compared to the Redmi Note 11T 5G.
Both the cameras can record 1080p videos at 60fps and do not support 4K video recording. The videos from the main camera have a slightly better dynamic range and less noise compared to the Redmi Note 11T 5G. Both implement EIS at 1080p videos and in ultrawide cameras, the videos have a more natural look on the Moto G51 but the dynamic range is equally decent on both.
On the front, the selfie videos come out with better dynamic range and natural colors on the Moto G51 compared to the Redmi Note 11T 5G which does apply some skin smoothening. There is less noise on the Moto G51 but the details look softer on both of them when it comes during the night. Overall, the cameras are better on the Moto G51 compared to the Redmi Note 11T 5G which does better in low-light.
Moto G51 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T 5G Battery Life:
Both the Moto G51 and the Redmi Note 11T 5G sport a larger 5000mAh battery that can easily last for two days with normal usage with the display being set to their highest refresh rates. With normal usage, both easily lasted for a single day with some charge left. Though having a slightly higher refresh rate panel, the Moto G51 was providing slightly more screen-on time compared to the Redmi Note 11T 5G.
The standard screen-on time on the Moto G51 was around 7-8 hours compared to 7-7.5 hours on the Redmi Note 11T 5G. This is due to the better optimization of Stock Android over MIUI in terms of battery life. But still the Redmi Note 11T 5G is quite efficient as the Mediatek Dimensity 810 is built on a 6nm process compared to Snapdragon 480+ chipset that is built on an 8nm process present on the Moto G51.
But when it comes to charging, the Redmi Note 11T 5G has a faster 33W fast charger bundled inside the box that can take the smartphone from 0 to 100 percent within 75 minutes(1 hour 15 minutes) which is slightly faster than the 20W fast charger provided with the Moto G51 that takes it around 1 hour 30 minutes to charge from 0 to 100 percent completely.
Moto G51 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T 5G Audio Quality:
This is one area where the Redmi Note 11T 5G holds the edge as it has a stereo speaker setup that sounds slightly better than the single speaker present on the Moto G51. The Moto G51 though having a single speaker sounds quite louder and the sound does not feel muffled. Both have a 3.5mm headphone jack and Dolby Atmos for enhanced sound profiles.
Verdict:
Both these are very good mid-range smartphones that come with support for 5G and provide some good specifications. Both have a high refresh rate display, good performance, good battery life, and have an equally good set of cameras. But there are certain differences between the two.
The Moto G51 has a larger display at 6.8-inches compared to the 6.6-inches on the Redmi Note 11T 5G, the build and design on both are good as both have plastic backs, the Moto G51 has a slight edge when it comes to software experience as it does not have any bloatware or ads, the cameras are better than the Redmi Note 11T 5G and you get slightly better battery life on the Moto G51.
The Redmi Note 11T on the other hand brings better images during low-light, has better audio quality as it has stereo speakers, and also has support for faster charging with good battery life. MIUI has very little bloatware compared to previous versions. So considering all, if you want the better cameras, performance with gaming, and a clean software experience, then the Moto G51 is the better pick of the two.
